Seven miles away is the National Radio Astronomy Observatory with daily tours and a new visitor center. It is the world's largest fully steerable single aperture antenna. Several other radio telescopes are located on the grounds, as well as the brand new visitor's center. |

Ten miles west is Snowshoe Mountain Resort, a year round facility offering skiing in the winter and golf in the summer. This very active, year-round resort comes complete with fine dining, golf, swimming, and summer events such as classical music concerts, wine and jazz fastivals, and even motorcycle rallies. |
